Cheryl – Team Manager Midlands
Hi, my name is Cheryl. I completed my master’s degree in social work at the University of Birmingham in 2014. I have worked in a variety of social work teams including fostering and adoption and initial assessment, both in the private sector and local authority.
Prior to qualifying I obtained a BA honours degree in Education. I spent time working in various children’s educational and family support settings. I also worked in a local women’s refuge, where I offered support and advice to women and children fleeing domestic abuse.
Since qualifying I have predominately worked in fostering. I spent 7 years at an IFA before taking on a new challenge as a qualified Practice Educator for a local authority. Here I supported and assessed student social workers within the initial assessment team. I realised in my time here that I was passionate about fostering, enjoying working with carers and the children they support and the rewards it can bring. I returned to a fostering team where I have worked as a senior practitioner for the last three and a half years.
In my spare you will find me at home with my partner and children. My favourite past times include music, travelling and cooking. I will often be found planning themed nights which include all these with family and friends.
