Easter is my favourite time of the year as it welcomes spring, and we say goodbye to the dark cold mornings and nights. It feels like summer is just round the corner.
For some people, Easter is an important religious holiday to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ and marking the end of Lent. For others, it’s a cultural holiday of indulging in a lot of chocolate and spending quality time with Families and Friends. At UK fostering we join the indulgence by handing out free chocolate to our foster children and foster families. Do they need more chocolates, possibly not? But some may argue that you can never have too much. Especially over this exciting holiday.
I love Easter for the opportunity it brings to cherish quality time with my family. As we grow older, finding time for us all to gather becomes increasingly challenging but Easter remains one of those special times of the year when my family gets together by the countryside. Like a lot of families, we follow some fun Easter traditions such as Easter egg hunts, decorating eggs and enjoying a Sunday feast, and of course, getting a few extra days off work.
When spring comes to mind, many associate it with the arrival of adorable baby lambs and chicks. A core memory of mine is driving through the country lanes, watching the baby lambs in the fields. Living in London, this wasn’t the norm. It really makes me appreciate spending my Easters by the countryside.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Easter, if that’s celebrating this religious holiday, simply enjoying a long weekend off or eating lots of mini eggs… I know I will be. If you have the additional love and space to pair with the extra chocolate, why not consider fostering? Extending your family and introducing that special person to your Easter family traditions could really change that someone’s life for the better.
