The Queen’s Jubilee let’s celebrate with a party! Her Majesty has given this country 70 years of loyal service and she, and the rest of us, deserve to have a good time celebrating. As a community, our road wanted to make this occasion one to remember and celebrate.
A small group of residents met to discuss and arrange a day of fun and a time to remember. As a group, we collectively designed a flyer to send to all our neighbours in the street to let them know what we were hoping to do. We looked on the internet at our Local Authority to see what the rules were around the Jubilee and shutting our street.
A week later we knocked on all the doors and asked if they would be happy for this celebration to take place and if they would be happy to sign the petition as this was a requirement from the Council. Everyone was so happy with the idea and also asked if they could help support the day.
I personally spoke to a lady who remembered the Golden Jubilee and the memories she shared were beautiful her words were “I will always remember that day as I was little and still had my mum and dad with me” it was lovely to hear and share her memories.
The petition was signed – now time to plan the day, looking at the ages of people on our street we knew we had to cater for all ages. Firstly, we looked at timings for the day:
- start time will be 1 pm for all cars to be moved and ensure the party will be safe for all children and all other residents
- 1.30-3 pm all residents to decorate their properties
- 3.30-4.30 pm we have arranged for a Fire Truck visit, they have said that all children can go into the Fire Truck, sound the alarms, and take photos, also they can ask the Firemen questions about their role as a Firefighter
- 4.30-6 pm there will be fun activities for the children, arts and crafts, sports day type games and our local ice-cream man will be making an appearance for all the children to have ice cream.
- 6 pm-onwards the community will come together to chat, have a BBQ and drinks to celebrate the occasion, we have radios, speakers and also a TV to watch so we don’t miss any of the Queen’s moments and activities around London. We will listen to music, and try foods from other cultures as we have a variety of people who would like to cook their own food and bring it to the party for people to try.
Our friends at our local Morrisons will also be supporting our day with gifts for the children, food, and decorations. We are also going to ask local businesses if they would like to participate and come and talk about their organisations, our local shops, and the bakery for our community to sample.
With any event, we also have to look at safety and ensure we have people who are first aid trained and that we have first aid boxes and a first aid station available for the day.
After the last couple of years, this is a real joy to be able to come together as a community and really get to know your neighbours. I must admit as a country this is a good way to celebrate all that has happened.
Whether a Royalist or not, I hope that you will be able to enjoy a few days together with friends, family, and in your local community, to celebrate an amazing lady who has become our longest-serving monarch…and still working aged 96 years old!
Gawd bless ya, Ma’am 😊
