Whilst most Local Authorities make their initial referral to us via email, we feel it’s important to talk about a potential match between a foster carer and a young person early on in the placement finding process. Through speaking to Local Authorities about our foster families, their experience, their areas for development and family setup, we can create a detailed understanding of the areas where a foster family is appropriate (or not as the case may be) for every child concerned.

Responding to Referrals

We always do our best to respond quickly and efficiently to any referral which we receive. In this way, a Local Authority can focus on the relevant leads which they get from their referrals.

We are transparent in sharing information about our foster carers with Local Authorities, and expect the same in return relating to information about each child or young person. Our foster carers are happy to speak to a Social Worker from the Local Authority directly about a potential fostering match if this is in the interest of a thorough and meaningful matching process.

The Matching Process

Each of our foster families has their own profile, which is designed to give Local Authorities a useful outline of the skills and experience of our carers. This can be helpful in establishing which Form Fs to request and read, and it can also save time for the Local Authority in the initial stages of the matching process.

In each instance, the matching process by UK Fostering is coordinated by an experienced and qualified social worker who has a detailed understanding of the broader issues relating to children in care.
